Monkey Rain Atelier
About us
The name 'Monkey Rain' is derived from the phrase, 'a monkey's wedding' or 'umshado wezinkawu'. This is a term typically used in Southern Africa to describe the weather phenomenon known as a sunshower, a period of time when it is raining while the sun is shining. It's a very oxymoronic concept which also speaks to the duality of life. One could even draw parallels with our day to day life here in Zimbabwe and the world at large. An idea of two opposing elements (fire and water) co-existing as a metaphor for sadness and happiness or prosperity and suffering. As a concept that's deeply personal to our founder, Monkey Rain Atelier seeks to add a personal touch and an element of story telling throughout our work.
